Elvis’ Story

Elvis Knotts–
“The King of Agility”
11/18/1998 to 11/26/2011

My husband and I found Elvis at the local Humane Society, following the urging of a good friend. She said, “I think I’ve found the perfect dog for you”. She could not have been more right. (Thank you, Mimi).

Elvis was the perfect dog and his story, a bit of a miracle. Elvis’ first vet appointment left us feeling shocked and terrified. The vet informed us that our new pup had a hole in his heart. He told us that some pups were born that way but the hole usually had healed by the time a pup was 6 weeks old or so (Elvis was 10 weeks old already). We asked what we could expect of his life and were told he would probably be slower, not have a lot of stamina and would probably die young. What could we do? There really was only one answer – we were going to keep him. We prepared ourselves mentally to deal with his condition and were determined to make the most of it. Three weeks later, we visited the vet again and were told that the hole had healed! We both felt it was a miracle.

Elvis grew up – healthy and strong. He had a great life, filled with lots of hikes, agility, and ballplaying. He loved everyone and everything. Elvis also earned his Canine Good Citizen and was a certified Therapy dog. He is greatly missed.
